this is a cake and it earned a GOLD MEDAL at the
Delhi Culinary Competition
October 24-25

Ann Pellegrino-The Gingersnap Bakery

This is from the competition category "C1" single tier, decorated, celebration cake.  The requirements were a maximum size of 15"X15", all edible items.

My score was 36 something out of 40.  It was kind of a blur - I was trying not to pass out so I do not recall the exact score.

This cake also took best of show in the cold food salon.  (that includes petit fours, appetizers and the live demo)

To fulfill the requirements of a celebration theme I decided to make a Mother's Day breakfast in bed.

    The tray table is a decorated cake with basket weave legs.  On top of the tray was a cup of tea (with a tea bag), a plate of "burned" toast (actually almond cake painted to look burned), a pink gum paste rose, and a letter from a young child.  The china cup and plates were made out of pastillage and hand painted as was the letter and envelope.  The tea cup was filled with tinted piping gel.

Part of the judging includes incorporating table decorations so I made my table look like a bed with pillow.  I even included a novel and reading glasses.
